Abstract

This thesis examines the portrayal of theism and atheism in the Richard Dawkins’ The God Delusion. Through this book, atheists voice a high amount of objections to faiths and religions, trying to show the privilege of being atheists. Using Deconstruction theory, this study focuses on revealing the contradiction(s), the inconsistency(s), and the ambivalence(s) throughout the book. The aim of the study is to give science, theism, and religions space in voicing different versions of truth, instead only a single unified truth, desired by atheistic scientists. The results of the study are the atheists’ inability to exclude themselves from the circle of belief system, the atheists’ failure to avoid the need of faith, and the atheists’ failure to dismiss the use of feeling and emotion. Key Terms: Delusion, Theism, Atheism, Science, Deconstruction.
