Abstract

This study discusses about the long-term impact of a child abuse depicted in the main character of a movie One Hour Photo namely Sy Parrish's. The focus of the study is Sy's adulthood behavior with the attempt to identify his adulthood behaviors as the impact of his childhood experience and to identify the specific range of time where the abuse occurs. The analysis is conducted by making use Sigmund Freud's theory of Psychoanalysis. Parts of the theory applied in the analysis are: Defense Mechanisms and Psychosexual Stages. In the process of analysis, the writer uses qualitative method that is by conducting descriptive analysis and explanation through the events and action in the movie related to the identification process of the main's character behavior as long-term impact of being a child abuse victim. The research is conducted by collecting more information about related issues from sources such as text books, articles, academic journals, statistical data, and Internet as the main electronic source. The analysis resulted with the following knowledge: the abusive event takes place anal, phallic, and latency stage. Therefore the abusive act is most likely to appear repetitively. Furthermore the writer finds that Sy develops seven types of defense mechanisms namely: Repression, Denial, Reaction Formation,
