Skripsi thesis, UNIVERSITAS AIRLANGGA.
Abstract
This study is based on perspective of New Historicism. New historicism is actually a significant approach to literature that has influenced the way people view history. In this case, New Historicism gives different perspective from historical analysis in traditional and official history accounts. This thesis is aimed to know the difference between the representation of American Civil War in official history accounts and in the Novel.
Based on the perspective of New Historicism, this study finds that the descriptions and interpretation of American Civil War was different. In this way, there are several things that can be learned, the most important thing is that history and new historicism can be contradicted but also can fulfill each other. The other, new historicism gives `equal weight' on literary and non-literary materials. Hopefully, this study can encourage the reader to explore the new outlook of history, especially for the academic readers, who are also interested in new historicism
