Abstract
Multi Drug Resistance Tuberculosis (MDR TB) is the biggest problem globally in the prevention and control of Tuberculosis (TB). MDR TB is one type of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis resistance to at least two anti TB drugs namely Isoniazid and Rifampicin. The purpose of this research is to determine the risk factors for MDR TB in TB patients in Jayapura regional public hospital. The method of this research is observational analytic with using casecontrol study. The selection of the sample as a non random sampling with accidental sampling technique obtained 18 cases and 30 control samples. Data analysed using the Chi-Square and Spearman correlation with 95% confidence intervals. The results showed that the risk factor which affect the incidence of MDR TB that is comorbid diabetes mellitus (OR 11.15; 95% CI 1.18 to 105.2) and factors of prior treatment history (p= 0.001). Factors that do not affect the incidence of MDR TB treatment are poor adherence, duration of treatment, supervision in drugs, and comorbid HIV. Conclusion of this study is risk factor comorbid diabetes mellitus and the history of previous treatment are factor affecting the incidence of Multi Drug Resistance Tuberculosis (MDR TB) in patien tuberculosis in Jayapura regional public hospital. However to avoid the failure in treatment, it is required special attention from health officer to lifestyle of TB patients with comorbid diabetes mellitus during treatment and required TB drug resistance testing since the beginning to determine TB treatment.
