Abstract
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) merupakan suatu aktivitas sosial yang dilakukan oleh perusahaan sebagai bentuk tanggung jawab perusahaan terhadap lingkungan sosial sekitar tempat perusahaan beroperasi. Pada penelitian sebelumnya menunjukkan bahwa, CSR dipandang mampu membangun citra dan reputasi perusahaan, yang secara efektif meningkatkan kinerja perusahaan. Meskipun CSR dikatakan terbukti memengaruhi kinerja perusahaan, namun indikator keuangan penting dari sebuah perusahaan, yaitu default risk sebagian besar tampaknya telah diabaikan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh corporate social responsibility terhadap default risk perusahaan di Indonesia dengan tingkat persaingan sebagai variabel moderasi. Peneliti menggunakan 47 sampel perusahaan non keuangan yang terdaftar di Bursa Efek Indonesia (BEI) dan dirating oleh PEFINDO selama tahun 2004-2014, dengan observasi sebanyak 174. Hasil moderated regression analysis (MRA) menunjukan bahwa CSR berpengaruh negatif signifikan terhadap default risk, dan hubungan CSR terhadap default risk semakin lemah ketika tingkat persaingan tinggi.
