Abstract

This study is aimed at understanding the effect of islamic behavior on tijarah (trading) towards income, expenditure, and family welfare (a study on wives who practicing tijarah in Mataram). This research was conducted in Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara. From 972 population, 10% (97 people) were recruited as sample. Structured interview was adopted to collect data. Data was analyzed using quantitative approach supported by intuitive and qualitative analysis . Further, the quantitative data analysis used Partial Least Square (PLS) method adopted from Smart PLS program version 2.0 M3. The study results show that Islamic behavior on tijarah positively and significantly affects the wives’income; the wives’ income has positive and significant impacts on their expenditures; the wives income has positive, but insignificant impacts on their family welfare, and the wives’ expenditure has positive and significant impacts on their family welfare. Indeed, the Islamic behavior on tijarah such as trading trustworthily, honestly, cooperatively, and avoiding hoarding, as mentioned in the Quran and the Sunnah of Prophet has been partially practiced, (not kaffah) by the wives in Mataram. Nevertheless, the wives’ income is spent on the path of Allah, that is to fulfill the wives’ and their families’ daily needs.
