Abstract

This research studies about the effects of work ethic and Islamic integrated crop management on the aim of farmers’ family welfare in Luwu. The potency of the harvested area is 56.988 ha, with the production of 347.595,25 tons, and the average production of 6.1 tons / ha, a population of 324.229 inhabitants (2008), the population growth of 1.2% annually, and in 2012 it became 583,663 people, with the rice needs of 139,15 kg / capita or 140 kg / capita, so the demand for rice is 81712.82 tons / year, whereas the production capacity has still reached 695,184.5 tons / year meaning that the demand is less than the production or 81.712,82 tons / year (rice needs) 463.454,6 tons of rice less. Rice needs is adequately met, but it is still low for the income and welfare of farmers, improvement is needed through the implementation of Islamic integrated crop management. This study uses Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The result of the analysis of Islamic work ethic on integrated crop management is that the relationship was not significant. The same is true for integrated crop management and structure of production cost relationship which is also an insignificant one. The integrated crop management and Muslim farmers welfare has insignificant relationship. Work ethic variable the structure of production cost has significant relation which is the same with work ethic and welfare of Muslim farmers, a significant one. The same result is also with variable of production cost structure and the welfare of the farmers’ family which has significant relationship, too. Insignificant relationship means that the integrated management requires a change in behavior and managing pattern systems and cropping procedures patterns with social condition adjustment. The influence of Islamic work ethic on farmers requires a process. Along with the development, farmers are faced with a variety of advances, while the potential resource farmers are not ready to work professionally. Some indicators of integrated management is, the readiness of land, availability of water sources, preparation of seeds / seedlings, chemical and organic fertilizers, agronomic and environment adjustment, crops and postharvest. The development of farmers organizations function as a unifying media group, an integrated pest management, is an important part of integrated crop management, errors are harmful for farmers. Therefore, the Islamic work ethic in the integrated management is seen more readily accepted by farmers. It is because the potency of religion, culture is part of the Muslim farmers’ life. The basic supplies in the application of Islamic work ethics begins with intentions, character, knowledge and skills and realizing it with the practice and being patient while working. Those four factors are the basis for prosperity. Islamic view on welfare is, the protection of the faith or ad-Din, on an- Nafs, al-Aql, al-Maal and Al-Nasl protection. These four indicators will be a regulator of the balance of life for a Muslim.
