Abstract

Abstract: Exposure poor of ambient air quality can cause dry eyes syndrome. Traffic of the police on duty patrol units on the highway will have a risk of dry eyes syndrome. The purpose of this research was to analyze the relationship between dry eyes syndrome in the Police with ambient air quality in Surabaya. Type of research is observational with comparative research design. Analysis of test selection on the variable exposure of ambient air quality, age, years, length of exposure time, eye contact lenses, and drug intake of dry eyes syndrome with a simple logistic regression, whereas multivariate analysis with multiple logistic regression. The results of this study was the prevalence of dry eyes syndrome of the Police in Surabaya 37.5%, ambient air quality of NO2 and dust particles parameters has been exceeded environmental quality standards and test results of multiple logistic regression found a significant association between dry eyes syndrome in the Police with air quality ambient (p-value = 0.002, risk ratio = 11.926, 95% CI = 2.56 to 55.55). Conclusion: (1) The prevalence of dry eye syndrome in members of the Police in Surabaya in the study was 37.5%. (2) ambient air quality in the city of Surabaya to levels of NO2 gas and dust particles has been exceeded environmental quality standards are in West Surabaya, East and North. (3) There is a relationship of dry eyes syndrome in the police of patrol units and the police staff with the ambient air quality in Surabaya.
