Abstract

Migration of women migrant worker is like two sided coin. In the other side, their economic family condition is improved. But their departure from family realm caused cultural transformation and changed basic structure. One of it is the divorce among migrant worker. In this case the women who divorce their husband. This research is aimed to know about changes of power relation in migrant worker family. There are two research focuses which are (1) how is power relation between husband-wife after wife�s migration; and how is the form of that changing power relation? The purposes of this research are found the changes of power relation after women�s migration and the form of power relation changes. This research used social behavior paradigm with Peter Blau�s social exchange theory, which exchange was not always in balance. Data were collected using indepth interview then analyzed qualitatively. The result shows that migration causes power relation changes in the family. Women�s earning as migrant workers give them �power� to determine even dominate decision making. Their earning is higher than their husband. This newfound �power� changes power relation between husband-wife. It gives women an authority. Second, as founded in the field, the change in migrant worker�s family is taken form in the changes of traditional roles man and women. The roles are home making, and child rearing of divorced children, taken by the man.
