Abstract

Vitiligo is a skin disease that usually affects children and young adults. It causes depigmentation of the skin. It has remained a challenge to find the right cure up to now. World-wide, the prevalence of vitiligo is varied from 0,5 to 2,4 %. Many countries have used different types of medical treatment to cure vitiligo. The results were varied and unsatisfactory. Recently, narrow band ultraviolet B (NB-UVB) 311nm used for vitiligo causes pigmentation growth, but the mechanism of repigmentation is still uncertain. HSP70, bFGF, FGFR-1 and Calcineurin as an intercellular paracrine network may be involved in the repigmentation mechanism. In this study the amount of cells that expressed these cytokine proteins were studied in vitiligo lesion before and after treatment. Seventeen patients with non-segmental vitiligo were cured with NB-UVB 311nm and the amount of cells which expressed the HSP70, bFGF, FGFR-1, Calcineurin and p53 mutant were analyzes by immunohistochemistry. The amount of keratinocytes expressing the HSP70 in vitiligo were higher than perilesions skin, and the amount of cells expressing the bFGF, FGFR-1 and Calcineurin were lower than perilesions skin. NB-UVB 311nm exposured with 0,75 J/cm² dose for six months proved to increase the amount of cells which expressed these proteins significantly. This study also suggested that there were no significant differences the amount of cells expressed p53 mutant between vitiligo and perilesions skin, also after NB-UVB 311nm exposured. Clinically, it has been proven that there were some influences of NB-UVB exposured therapy towards repigmentation which means the improvement in vitiligo.
