Abstract
Dr.Soetomo Hospital Surabaya is a public hospital owned by regional government of East Java province. Increasing number of patients is accompanied by increased volume of hospital solid medical waste. In the implementation of medical waste management, Dr. Soetomo hospital has a Standart Operasional Procedure (SOP). This study aims to evaluate the process of solid waste management medical hospital based on the hospital SOP. The study was an observational descriptive, which describes the implementation of hospital solid medical waste management starting from the input, process, output and compare the suitability of the implementation of Hospital Medical Waste’s SOP. Types of data used are primary data and secondary data. Primary data obtained from interviews and direct observation, and secondary data obtained from existing documents. The results of the study showed that the evaluation of the existing problems in the input was a shortage of human resources, medical waste management facilities, as well as the budget, the problem exist at the process was a mistake separation, storage, and transport of the medical waste, the existing problems in the output stage was a mixture of hospital solid medical waste with non-medical waste which resulted in the mistake of the transport process. Based on hospital medical waste’s SOP, standard operating point of the existing 16, 10 points (62,5%) in accordance with the implementation and 6 points (37,5%) were not in accordance with the implementation of the hospital's medical waste manage ment. All the existing problems become a strategic issue that needs to be given solution. Through research and study of the FGD process, an important issue to be solved is the lack of knowledge of officers and families of patients, limited facilities, as well as the lack of sanitary control.
