Abstract

Perineal rupture during childbirth process was caused by thining and stretching of vaginal tissue during stage II in order to open the birth canal. 70% primigravida suffer perineal rupture during childbirth process. To decrease the incidence of perineal rupture, perineal massage is recommended to improve elasticity of perineal tissue. The aim of this study is to prove the effect of perineal massage on 34-46 weeks gestational age of primigravida and multigravida to the incidence of perineal rupture during childbirth process. This research is true experimental study with control group post test-only design with simple random sampling technique. In this study subjects were divided into two groups, treatment group consist of 9 primigravida and 9 multigravida, control group consist of 9 primygravida and 9 multygravida, The result showed that on the treatment group: 44.4% primigravida are not rupture, and 55,6% suffer rupture stage 1. whereas in 55.6% multigravida are not rupture, 44.4% suffer rupture stage 1. In the control group: 22.2% primigravida are not rupture, 22,2% suffer rupture stage 1 , 55.6% suffer rupture stage 2 and 11.1% multigravida not suffer on rupture, 33.3% suffer rupture stage 1, 55.6% suffer rupture stage 2. On the treatment group who treated by perineal massage showed 50% did not suffer perineal rupture, while the control group without perineal massage 16,7% did not suffer perineal rupture. Mann-Whitney test result showed that p = 0001. The conclution of this study is perineal massage on 34-36 weeks of pregnancy can reduce the incidence of perineal rupture significantly.
