Objective: The purpose of this study is to notice the effect of administering propolis extract on male white rat's (Rattus norvegicus) white blood cells profile treated with dexamethasone. Methode: This research applies 'randomized post test only control group' design. Blood samples was collected from the heart and analised using sysmex 2000i device in the laboratory. The result was then treated as data of white blood cell profile and analyzed using SPSS running on an opensource operating system-linux. 25 rats is used in this study which divided into 5 groups and treated for two weeks. Group 1 (K1): was treated with standard diet, (K2): dexamethasone 9.0 &#956;g/ 200 gram of rat's body weight, twice daily for one week, (K3): propolis extract 1.8 mg/ 200 gram of rat's body weight, twice daily for one week, (K4): dexamethasone 9.0 &#956;g/ 200 gram of rat's body weight, twice daily for first one week and then followed by propolis extract 1.8 mg/ 200 gram of rat's body weight, twice daily for another week in sequence, (K5): dexamethasone 9.0 &#956;g/ 200 gram of rat's body weight, twice daily for first one week and then followed by propolis extract 3.6 mg/ 200 gram of rat's body weight, twice daily for another week in sequence. Blood sample was collected from ventricle chamber and examined in the laboratory. Data of white blood cell profile was statistically analyzed using ANOVA, Post Hoc with Tukey-HSD, Kruskal-Wallis tests. Result: administering propolis extract on white rats treated with dexamethasone has change the white blood cell profile as in group (K5) by increased of mean of eosinophils (5.2 ± 0.84 (%)) and monocyte count (6.4 ± 2.51 (%)) with value of p< 0.05, increased mean of total leukocyte (17,10 ± 1,85 (103/mm3)), neutrophil counts (band: 1.4 ± 1.67 (%) and segment 24.2 ± 4.02 (%)) with value of p> 0.05, and decreased mean of lymphocyte count (62.8 ± 4.27(%)) with value of p> 0.05 compare to control group (K1). Conclusion: this study presents the capability of propolis extract to restore the white blood cells profile of white rat's treated with dexamethasone which can be achieved at higher dose (3.6 mg/ 200 gram of rat's body weight) and this finding is dose-related.
