Abstract

Diarrheal disease is a characterized by changes in the shape and consistency of stools become soft until melted and increased frequency of defecation more than usual (three times a day). This was an observational study methodology using a case-control study. Population in this study amounted to 117 by using accidental sampling technique covering 39 cases and 78 control. The data was collected through interviews and observations using a questionnaire and checklist. This research was conducted in December 2013 to January 2014 The results of this study showed the risk factors that influence the occurrence of diarrhea were the age of a toddler (p = 0.009), maternal education (p = 0,003), toddlers mother work (p = 0.05), nutritional status (p = 0.019), mother fingernail hygiene ( p = 0.03), how to store food (p = 0.007), quality of the food (p = 0.04), availability of hand soap (p = 0.04). The results of multivariat test is age of a toddler (p=0,007 ),malnutrition (p=0,007 ), working mothers (p=0,001) and after in the interpretation of results logistics regression by 19% occurrence of acute infectious diarrhea in infants The risk factors that are not proven by the results of statistical tests are aged mother / toddler caregiver, knowledge, toddlers fingernails hygiene, how to wash hands properly, toddler milk quality, water resources, the availability of family latrines, latrines terms healthy, the type and form of latrines.
