Abstract

Stress is an unavoidable thing on life. The difference of vocational education system led to a different pressure to students who will be a trigger for inscreasing stress in vocational students. So, the adolescence overcome the stress by looking for some ways as problem solving. One of them using cigarettes as escaping problem solving. This study aim to analyze stress factors on adolescence who smoke in 2nd grade SMKN 5 Surabaya. This study used descriptive analytic with cross sectional approach. The population was all of eleven grade students in SMKN 5 Surabaya. Sample of 130 respondent were taken byrandom purposive sampling method. The independent variables in this study were family support, personality, coping strategy while dependent variable was stress on adolescence who smoke. Data were collected by using questionnaire, andanalyzedusing Spearman’s Rho test with significance level α<0,05. Spearman’s Rho test showed that there were significance level between stress on adolescence who smoke with personality (p=0.000). On the other hand, no significance level between stress on adolescence who smoke with the family support (p=0.268) and coping strategy (p=0.197). Results of this study concluded that personality is related to stress on adolescence while family support and coping strategy are not related to stress on adolescence. Future studies are expected to analyze the correlation between knowledge with stress on adolescence who smoke in 2nd grade SMKN 5 Surabaya.
