Abstract

This study was conducted to analyze the drug utilization in type 2 DM with hypertension patient who was hospitalized on January 1 to June 30 2004. The objectives of this study were : to know antidiabetic profile; to analyze antidiabetic related to final diagnosis, laboratory data and clinic data; to know antihypertension profile; to analyze antihypertension related to final diagnosis, laboratory data and clinic data; to know other complications or comorbid; to know other therapy profile; to analyze Drug Related Problem. The analysis was conducted descriptively by using retrospect ive data (medical record) whose result was then compared with guideline. Anti diabetic which mostly used was insulin actaprid (78.95%) with intravenous bolus, subcutaneous and intravenous drip route which its use depend on blood glucose concentration and also other conditions that caused the use of insulin. Antihiper tension which mostly used was captopril (63.16%). The dosage of antidiabetic and antihipertension depend on the individual response. Complications or comorbid which mostly appeared was 71.05% infection, 60.52% diabetic nephropathy and 10.53% hypoglycemia. Drug Related Problems found in this study were a less appropriate use of dihidropiridin antihypertension (nifedipin and amlodipin) to diabetic nephropathy patient; inappropriate use of metformin to diabetic nephropathy patient; inappropriate use of antibiotics combination with the same spectrum which were ceftazidimcefotaksim, ciprofloksasin-ceftazidim to gangrene patient; 8 various of drug interaction that may appeared. To know the relation between the decline of blood glucose concentration and blood pressure with antidiabetic and antihypertension therapy and to know the act ual drug interaction it is suggested to conduct the study prospectively
