Abstract

This paper studies the economic growth convergence of the ASEAN countries in 1981-2001. Using data economic, population and share of international trade on gross domestic product based on year 2000, using the panel data method this paper estimate two model suggested by Barro and Salai (1995), the absolute convergence and the conditional convergence model. The result indicate both absolute and conditional convergence appear among the 5 ASEAN countries, Indonesia, Malaysia, Filipina, Singapore, and Thailand, economic growth. Those result mean chatching up process happen between low economy country and high economy country in ASEAN 5 countries. Given this result, the economic growth of this 5 ASEAN countries should be hold and maintain to succeed the ASEAN Economy Union Goals.
