Abstract

Introduction: Dengue eradication program (PSN-DBD) in Surabaya was far from success. It is arguably the cadre to the program (kader Jumantik) were lack of knowledge, attitude, and skill in promoting the program to the community. The purpose of this study was to analyse the correlation between cadres knowledge and attitude and their performance in empowering the community to implement the eradication program. Method:This research was a cross sectional study. Sixty-four cadres were involved as respondents through clustered random sampling. The data were collected using questionnaires which consists of knowledge, attitude and performance of cadre, and were then tested using Spearman Rank test (p<0.05). Results:The result of this study imply that both knowledge and attitude have strong correlation with cadres performance in empowering the community (p=0.000, r=0.578 and p=0.000, r=0.704 in respective order). Discussion: Although the cadres knowledge, skills, and performance are good, the result of the eradication program remains far from the expected standard. One of the indicators, the larvae-free value (Angka Bebas Jentik) is under 95%. This finding suggests further study to explain factors that contributes to the success of Dengue eradication program.
