Abstract
Hydroxyurea is an antineoplastic compound which has activity to inhibit ribonucleotide re-ductase enzyme. The function of the enzyme 15 to inhibit DNA biosynthesis by converting ribonucleotides to deoxyribonucleotides. Hydroxyurea IS also useful in treatment of sickle cell anemia because it eases the paint of the patients, which has been attribute to its ability o generate nitric oxide, a potent vasodilator. Nitric oxide may also contribute to the antitumor effect of hydroxyuirea, since it is known to inhibit ribonucleotide reductase probably because it contains an unpalred.electron and therefore It is able to quench the thyrosine radical.
