Abstract

Hepatic Encephalopathy is a neuropsychiatric disorder that occurs due to liver damage, especially in such as cirrhosis hepatic. Most cases of HE are caused by toxic substances such as ammonia. The aim of this study was to identify the profile and pattern of drug use as for HE patients. A retrospective-prospective method was used with a descriptive analysis. Samples taken from October 2008-February 2009 for the retrospective (n = 9) and March 2008-June 2009 for prospective (n = 15) in Room A1, A2, B1 and B2 Department of Internal Medicine Rumkital Dr. Ramelan. Of 24 patients, 14 patients were male and 10 patients were female.The main therapeutic options for HE patients include parenteral nutrition of the BCAA that were given in 19 people (79.17%); flumazenil, levodopa, bromocriptine, L-ornithine-L-aspartate, citicholine, piracetam; antibiotics also was given such as kanamycin in 19 people (79.17%), neomycin 1 person (4.17%) and metronidazole 2 people (8:33%), and 3rd generation cephalosporin ie ceftriaxone in 16 people (66.67%). and lactulose in 15 people (66.67%).
