Abstract

Introdution: Post operative labioplasty and palatoplasty patient was being high risk of wound infection. The infection was caused by the poor condition of oral hygiene. Oral hygiene using propolis media was an intervention to clean and treat the wound as an attempt use to decrease the incident infection. Method: The design of this study was pre experimental study with 26 sample size of the postoperative clefts palate and the mouth ceiling patient in the CLP Center Faculty of Medicine UMM Medical Center Malang who were taken by using clusters sampling technique. Intervention were given to the sample without control group. Independent variable of this study was Oral Hygiene with media propolis and the dependent variable was infection incident. Data were taken by using Southampton Scoring System observation sheet. The data then analyzed using wilcoxon sign rank test with significance level α≤0.05. Result: Result the statistical test of wilcoxon sign rank test showed p=0,001 (0.001 < 0.05). It can be conclude that oral hygiene with propolis media has effect to reduce the incident of postoperative labioplasty and palatoplasty patient infection. Discussion and conclusion: Oral hygiene with propolis media contained caffeic acid, phenethyl ester and flavonoid as antibacterial agent to inhibit siklooksigenase synthase and reduce the inflammatory mediators. Further studies should use microbiology indicators, such the amount of bacteria to obtain more accurate result.
