Abstract

Cervical cancer is the second most frequent malignancy in women worldwide, and the most frequent gynecological malignancy in women in developing countries, including Indonesia. Persistent infection of oncogenic HPV had proposed to be the major risk factor of cervical cancer. This infection can be transmitted through sexual intercourse, which mean a bad sexual and life habit can lead to cervical cancer. The aim of this study was to determine cervical cancer risk factors at Sanglah Denpasar General Hospital. This study was an analytical case control study that used questionnaire as a study instrument. Women were enrolled consecutively until reach the desired sample size, 46 for each group. Case group was taken from out and in cervical cancer patient with a histology result that shown positive for cervical cancer. Whereas, control group was taken from outpatients with a pap smear result shown NILM. Dependent variable in this study was cervical cancer, and independent variables were age at first intercourse, age at first labor, parity, history of using estrogen based contraception, and family history of cancer. Statistical analysis result by Chi square test showed risk factors that associated to cervical cancer were first intercourse age ≤ 17 years old(p = 0,001), first labor age ≤ 19 years old (p= 0,011), parity >3 (p = 0,004). Whereas, history of using estrogen based contraception (p = 0,757) and family history of cancer (p = 1,000) did not show a significant association. Multivariate analysis result showed that first intercourse age ≤ 17 years old (p =< 0,021, OR= 4,089), first labor age ≤ 19 years old (p = 0,046, OR = 3,180), parity >3 (p = 0,004, OR = 5,718) has a significant association with cervical cancer. There is an association between early age at first intercourse, early age at first labor, and high parity with cervical cancer.
