Abstract

Background: A 2013 Riskesdas data showed an increasing stunting prevalence in 16-18 years olg teenagers in Indonesia from 31,2% in 2010 to 31,4%. A 2010 WHO indicator stated that stunting prevalence between 30 – 39% as a serious health problem category. Stunting in teenagers depict health problem that occurred in prior growth stage. Growth in height is highly affected by biologic potentials, whereas the level of biologic potentials reached is a result of genetic factor and bio-psychosocial environment interaction. Objective: To describe the height of Midwifery Department Airlangga University student based on factors that affect it, including age of puberty, age of menarche, dating history, and nutrition and calcium intake history. Method: this study was a quantitative study using descriptive method. Case group sampling was using total sampling technique that met inclusion and exclusion criteria as many as 102 samples. Result: this study result showed that 91,2% of respondents had a normal height, and 8,8% of respondents had a low height. As many as 60,8% of respondents had their puberty on 10 years of age, and 36,6% had menarche on 12 years of age. As many as 70,6% of respondent had dating experience, and age of first date was 15 years old (22,2%). History of nutrition intake; rice (96,1%), egg (93,1%), fried-food (79,4%), spinach (83,3%), and banana (69,6%). As many as 70,6% of respondents consumed calcium source food. Suggestion: a similar study to analyze the association between height and factors that affect it to determine dominant factor that affect early adolescent height growth so that an intervention to achieve a maximum adult height is needed.
