Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding is fully breastfeeding during the first 6 months without feeding or other beverages to the baby. Breastmilk plays an important role for thefuture of the baby as breast milk is very much beneficial for infants, mothers, families and country. The coverage of exclusive breastfeeding atSingojuruh Banyuwangi Public Health Center is 55.4%. While exclusive breastfeeding coverage indicator targets set in Banyuwangi is 75%. Therefore, we conducted a study to determine association between breastfeeding mother perception and behavior in according to health belief model theory in singojuruh village singojuruh district of banyuwangi. This study used an analytical method with cross sectional approach. The samples were breastfeeding mother of infants aged 6 months - 1 year in Singojuruh Village that present to Integrated Health Center asmany as 81 respondents. The independent variable were the percepived susceptibility, perceived threat, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, perceived external factors. The dependent variable was the behavior of breastfeeding mothers. Datacollecting technique used was questionnaire filling by observation method. The data obtained were analyzed using SPSS with Chi-square test with significant level (α = 0.05). The results of the 81 respondents showed that 87.7% of respondents with positive breastfeeding behavior. Bivariate analysis showed that there was no correlation between perceived susceptibility (p = 0.751), perceived threat (p =0.345), perceived benefits (p =0.010), perceivedbarrier (p =0.169), the perceived external factors (p =0.802) with breastfeeding behavior.
