Abstract

The aim of this research is to find the highest percentage yield between demetilation reaction of piperonal by HBr using solvent and without solvent, i.e, methanoL The product oftms reaction is 3,4-dihydrox:ybenzaldehyde. When using methanol as a solvent, it may occur a reaction between methanol and piperonal to form an asetal. Methanol can also reacts with HBr to form methylbromide. Those reaction reduced the amount ofpiperonal that reacts with HBr.
