Abstract

Mishearings or slips of the ear are defined as error occurred in speech perception as soon as the hearer/listener perceived the speech. This study aims to identify the type of mishearing and find out the most frequent type of mishearings existing in speech perception by the adolescence based on Bond’s classification. This study uses qualitative as the approach of the study. The instruments of this study is audio recording with three different rates (normal, fast and very fast). This study involves 126 samples of mishearings experienced by 30 adolescence in Blitar. This data yield slip of the ear phenomenon on types: consonant misperception, non-words, word boundary, content and function words, morphology and semantics. The most mishearings in this study are; in normal rate is morphology misperception with 41.6%, in fast rate and very fast rate is semantics misperception with 47% and 91%.
