Abstract

In this globalization era, information is necessary for people around the world. It can help them to improve their knowledge about everything in their surroundings. Information that has been received can be commonly referred to as news. News cannot be separated from media. There are several types of media that inform the news accurately, and one of them is the newspaper, which is included as printed media type. Newspaper has its own way of reporting the news. Besides being easy to get because it is produced every day, newspaper also has its own company that is responsible for the news released, so that the news is usually more reliable. There are several popular newspapers in Indonesia, but the most popular one is Jawa Pos newspaper. Jawa Pos newspaper is part of Jawa Pos Group. Not only local news, but Jawa Pos newspaper also provides news from other countries. Jawa Pos also has proven that it is able to become a leading media company in Indonesia with many achievements that have been obtained. The success of Jawa Pos has made the writer interested in doing the internship there. The writer did the internship as a translation-journalist in the "Ekonomi dan Bisnis" division of Jawa Pos from February 1st to March 2nd 2016. During her internship, the writer got a lot of useful experiences in the real workplace. In Jawa Pos whose staffs are usually more individual made a challenge for the writer. In this case, the writer learned to adapt and socialize to other staffs that would be very useful in the real workplace later on. Besides that, the writer also has gained new knowledge especially in the journalism field. As a translation-journalist, the writer has learned so many things, such as searching the news from several international news websites as news sources, translating, and re-writing the news, so the news will become worthy to be published. There were several problems experienced by the writer in translating the news from English into Bahasa Indonesia. Fortunately, the supervisor and other staffs gave a lot of advice and guidance to the writer, so she could improve her ability in translating and re-writing the news. Doing the internship in the biggest media company in Indonesia, Jawa Pos, the writer not only has obtained valuable experience, but also feel proud and grateful to be a part of it. As an internship student in Jawa Pos, the writer recommends Jawa Pos as a place to do internship for anyone who wants to learn more about journalism. The writer also suggests that Jawa Pos keep accepting the internship students who want to do the internship there. In addition, the writer also hopes that Jawa Pos will always become a leading media company as it is now, so there will be more rewards that can be achieved in the future. To English Diploma, the writer also suggests that it will continue and improve its corporation with Jawa Pos.
