Abstract
Indonesia is one of the big countries in the world, and early this year Indonesia is part of AEC (Asean Economic Community). To actively participate in AEC, the Indonesian human resource should be equipped with knowledge and skills needed. One of the basic requirements to fully participate at this level is the capacity to use English both spoken and written to communicate with others from different countries. The government of Indonesia has been trying to improve the English skills of its people by taking English as one of mandatory subjects at schools. There are many good quality schools in Surabaya that use English as the language of intsruction and the language for daily communication. One of them is SDI Al-Azhar 35 Surabaya. SDI Al-Azhar 35 Surabaya is a private school that hasinternational certification standard by Cambridge International Examination. SDI Al-Azhar 35 is located at Laguna, Pakuwon City, Jl. Florence J-4 No.31 East Surabaya, East Java. SDI Al-Azhar 35 Surabaya and this school is famous for its good quality in their teaching process and facilities. Being an assistant of homeroom teacher is not easy, the writer have to do her internship program as a teacher and an assistant of homeroom teacher in this school and she did many activities with her students by herself. The writer learnt a new story about student, she never thought before that she was being a teacher for a delayed speech student and therefore he was categorized as alow achiever compared to his classmates. Ms. Nofi as a homeroom teacher of Akbar (the student with a delayed speech) always make the writer believe that everyone has the same chance in the world, and for this case it happened with Akbar. So, the writer understands that all of people have different ability but all of them has the same chance. The writer could say that all of students in SDI Al-Azhar 35 are the children from above average economic background, but they have to follow the psychology test first before enrolling as a student. And they did everything by themselves as students. The school and the teachers make a good environment for the students in teaching learning process, They used English in their daily activities to make their students accustomed in speaking English. For the writer, the students in SDI Al-Azhar 35 are outstanding students. They might be naughty or very noise like other students in other schools, but students from SDI Al-Azhar are different. To teach English for the young learners is not easy. The teachers should prepare the lesson plan and they have to know the characteristic of their students. The writer was completed her internship program as a teacher of SDI Al-Azhar 35 Surabaya for about five weeks. And for her, SDI Al-Azhar 35 Surabaya is the best place for doing an internship program for English teaching major, with the good environment between the place and the people makes the writer easily to processing her internship time. The writer could recommend to the reader or the writer’s junior in college who take English teaching major for doing the internship program at this school. The writer got many experiences in teaching the students who has the good habbit in speaking English as the first communication language in school. Hopefully, the students from SDI Al-Azhar 35 Surabaya could be the example for other students in Surabaya to always try their best in teaching learning process, and SDI Al-Azhar 35 Surabaya always keep their vision and mission to make a better generation both are in hard skills and soft skills.
