Abstract

People need to exchange the information and get knowledge about everything that happens in their surroundings. That is why some media companies exist to provide news and information about all that is happening in the world. One of the printed media that provide news is newspaper. Newspaper has a special way to attract the readers. Not only presents actual, informative, and up to date news, newspapers is also published everyday and has an authentic form. One of the most popular printed media companies in Indonesia is Jawa Pos. Jawa Pos is a national newspaper which provides both national and international news. The existence of Jawa Pos newspaper gave the writer a chance to do internship there. The writer did her internship as an translation-journalist at Sportainment Division in Jawa Pos newspaper started from 2 January 2016 until 31 January 2016. Translation-journalist is a person who conveys material communicated from the source language into the target language without losing the literal meaning or nuances of the original article. During the internship in Jawa Pos, the writer has got many useful experience. He learned a lot about how to be a good translation-journalist especially in the sport fields. The writer also learned about journalistic process that includes searching for news from foreign news agencies, combining news from different sources, translating news, and editing news to make the article more interesting. The writer did not only learn about translation and journalism, but also learned to improve the soft skill, such as discipline, optimism, integrity, communication, and socializing. In every job, there would be many problems to be faced, especially working in the media company as a translation-journalist. The main problem that often occurs is in the title of allarticles, because the writer was not able to choose the right words and attractive words for the title. The other problem to be solved by the writer is currently translating and rewriting of tennis news, this task need more time because he do not know about tennis terms. Then, the supervisor give some advice how to choosing the attractive title for the writer’s job to make his articles better. In addition, The writer could overcome his problems by communicating with the supervisor and also by reading some sport articles to make his familiar with sport terms, especially tennis terms. The writer feel that internship experience en is an enriching his knowledge. The writer feel comfortable to do his internship because the atmosphere in Jawa Pos was very friendly and enjoyable. This experience, therefore, has made the writer feel proud and grateful for being a part of Jawa Pos. For the next interns who are interested in doing an internship with Jawa Pos, the writer suggests them to prepare themselves on the subjects they have learned from studying in English Diploma. Jawa Pos is by far the most suitable place for students to learn more on journalism, especially in translating and rewriting news. The writer suggests that Jawa Pos can maintain a good work in order to remain successful as it is now and will hopefully gain more achievements. In addition, the writers also hopes that Jawa Pos can always give the opportunities for interns to learn there.
