Abstract

As popular culture, video games are designed not only to entertain players but also give cultural impact such as introducing ideologies that influence public opinion. The Sims 4 as a simulation video game offers some options for players in choosing and creating sims. This study aims to explore White supremacy and colonization through non-White players’ perception and experiences. Using qualitative method, the writer conducted in-depth interview to The Sims 4 non- White players in The Sims 4 Indonesia online community. The postcolonial approaches such as othering, mimicry, and colorblindness were used as theoretical framework. The result of this study is that non-White players tend to choose White sims. They believe that White is a perfect race and becomes the standard of perfection in the world. To conclude, non-White players use The Sims 4 as the escapism to an ideal world that is related to White supremacy. The colonization experiences in the past have internalized and influenced non-White players in positioning themselves as inferior.
