Abstract

Sexual harassment is a phenomenon that quiet popular in the world as well as Japan. This phenomenon become more lucid after a lot of film director and novelist make a films and books based on this phenomenon. This paper made a study about patriarchy culture, gender, and a power relation in the Japanese film called “Oh Invisible Man” by Masakazu Migita. This film shows the courage from movie director, Masakazu Migita who package community culture such as: patriarchy, gender and power relations and mixed it with comedy. This film tells about a daily life of a young man named Toru who has magical powers. He could disappear if he ate cod roe and making it easier for him to do sexual harassment to any person freely. In that film, Migita try topouring forms of sexual imagination and sexual harassment committed by male characters to female characters through dialogues and behaviors. Various problems about gender inequality and the culture of patriarchy that is embedded in the mindset of the people are reflected in this film. The purpose of this paper is to search more deeply meaning of sexual harassment in this film, either in the form of behaviors or words. In analyzing the discourse of sexual harassment, the researcher used the method of Critical Discourse Analysis, with the approach of Norman Fairclough.
