Abstract

Leprosy is one of contagious skin disease that causing complex problems, not only from medical domain but also extend to social domain. Family support is supportive system in giving medication and helping family member to suffer from leprosy. The better family support will give better care for patient with leprosy, support treatment to cure and prevent disability due to drug withdrawal. The purpose of this study was analyze factors affecting family support in caring people with leprosy at Tuban. This study was using descriptive analytical study (cross sectional design). The population were families of patient with leprosy in Puskesmas Montong and Merakurak Tuban with 20 respondents, taken according to purposive sampling technique. The independent variables were age, gender, knowledge, socioeconomical status, and kinship with the leprosy. The dependent variable was family support. Data were collected using questionnaire and analyzed using Spearman Rho Test and Chi Square Test with significance value p≤ 0.05. Result showed that there were significant correlation between family support and these factors: age (p=0.008, r=0.573), gender (p=0.023), knowledge (p=0.010, r=0.565), socio-economical status (p=0.013, r=0.546), and kinship with the leprosy (p=0.083). Further research is needed to define other factors that may affect family support in caring people with leprosy.
