Abstract

Cervical Cancer is a disease that can affect every aspects of human living such as physiological, psychological and social aspects.Patients use adaptation coping mechanism to maintain self integrity from stimulus. Maladaptive coping can cause stress. Nurse role as control cognator can help patients improving adaptatibility. This study aimed to analyze the relation between nurse role with patients stress level. This research used analytical descriptive study design with 30 sample size of new cervical cancer patints in Oncology polyclinic of Dr. Soetomo Regional Public Hospital. The sample was taken by using consecutive sampling technique. The independent variabel of this study was nurse role as control cognator and the dependent variabel was stress level among cervical patients. Data were analyzed with Spearman's rho statistic test with significant value p<0.05. This study showed significant correlation between nurse role with stress level among cervical cancer petients (p=0.007 & r=0.485). Most of nurses in Oncology Polyclinic of Dr. Soetomo Regional Public Hospital had done their role well and most of patients had mild stress level. It can be concluded that nurse good role can help improve adaptability and decrease patients stress level. The study suggests that nurses need to improve their role as control cognator to decreasing patients stress level by giving health education comprehensively.
