Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine whether there is any Listeria monocytogenes contamination in raw chicken satay sold by several satay vendors in Surabaya. Twenty samples of raw chicken satay bought from several satay vendors were inoculated first in Listeria Enrichment Broth followed by Palcam agar media. The growth of the typical colony characteristics were further identified according to Gram staining, biochemical characteristics, motility, haemolysis on blood agar and CAMP-Test reaction. The result confirmed two out of 20 samples were Listeria sp. with characteristics positive to Gram staining, catalase test, hippurate hydrolysis test, MR-VP test, motile, and haemolysis blood showed β-haemolysis, while negative to sulfide, indol, TSIA, mannitol, and negative CAMP-Test, none of those was L. monocytogenes.
