Abstract

This study attempts to see at how the heteronormative society is represented in The Imitation Game film and how Alan Turing adjusts himself to the society. The government did not consider him as a war hero, but a criminal since he performed the different sexual acts. Alan Turing as a homosexual did not even get a chance to defend himselves. His life has been summed up in some literary works; one of them is film, The Imitation Game. This paper was analyzed by close reading at its narrative and non-narrative aspects that appeared in the selected scenes of The Imitation Game film. The scenes were sorted based on their relevance with the topic. After that, the data was mainly examined using Gayle Rubin’s theory, the sexual hierarchy. This study revealed that the society in The Imitation Game film is represented as heteronormative society that strongly declines homosexual, which make the homosexuals, represented by Alan Turing, has to hide his identity when he interacts with the society so no one knows about him being a homosexual.
