Abstract

The present study discusses about how the nature condition in Coconut Cove slowly changes as the consequence of business expansion in town that causes the burrowing owls habitat destruction. The aim of the present study is to provide the understanding to the people about the natural landscape and owl as the endangered animal; it also acknowledges people about the danger of the rural areas construction and habitat destruction so they can realize the importance of protecting nature. The method of the present study is descriptive qualitative method that uses Hoot novel as the primary source. Besides, the writer also uses journals, books, and articles as the secondary sources. The present study uses Ecocriticism as the theory because it covers the topics that are related to the relationship between environmental issues and literature. The writer uses ecocentric as the perspective of the present study because the character named Mullet Finger struggles to protect the burrowing owl habitat from the destruction in order to sustain the natural landscape and he does not take benefit from it. The present study also shows that environmental issues in Coconut Cove has changed the natural landscape and threat the Burrowing Owls’ habitat. Mullet Finger as the main character did the vandalism in order to stop the construction. The way Mullet Finger values the nature shows that he has the ecocentric view and understands the importance of protecting the nature.
