Abstract

Long and burdening therapeutic treatments of patients with cancers require social supports in order to encourage patients’ medical compliance. Family’s support helps patients with cancers remain positive during their palliative treatments so that they can develop physical and psychological fulfillment. This research aimed at identifying the correlation between family’s support and the rate of compliance of medical control of patients with cancers in Puskesmas Wilayah Kecamatan Tambaksari Surabaya The researcher used cross-sectional approach. The population was all patients with cancers who were undertaking treatment in Puskesmas Wilayah Kecamatan Tambaksari Surabaya. 36 respondents were drawn by using consecutive sampling technique. The independent variable of this research is family’s support, while the dependent variable is the rate of compliance of patients with cancers in maintaining their medical control. The data were collected using questionnaires which were then analyzed using Chi Square with the significance rate of α ≤ 0.05. The results of this research indicated that the correlation between family’s support and the rate of medical compliance resulted in p = 0.006. Lawrence Green’s theory emphasized that family’s support affects patient’s compliance in managing medical control so that increasing the rate of healing. It is recommended that the future researches be able to conduct researches on patient’s medical control compliance by considering other related factors; thus, the main factor of disobedience can be found. Treatment institutions should provide health-care promotions towards the family of patients with cancers as well as provide supports needed by them.
