Abstract

Leprosy is a disease with stigmatization that affects the self efficacy and behavior of leprosy patients in completing their own treatment and care so that no leprosy spread is not resolved. The purpose of research is to get a picture of the level of self efficacy and behavior of leprosy patients due to community stigma. Methods: This research used qualitative research design of phenomenological approach with in-depth interview method and focus group discussion on 12 participants who had performed the treatment. Results: The results of this study, the eight themes, namely response leprosy patients, leprosy patients experience sadness, self-image of leprosy patients, an overview of the disease, the changes experienced, efforts to address the problem, hope lepers and leprosy stigma. Analysis: The level of self efficacy of leprosy patients caused by community stigma in Burneh Sub-district of Bangkalan Regency, Madura was depicted on the magnitude dimension where leprosy patients have difficulty adapting after leprosy diagnosis, the leprosy strength dimension illustrates the desire to prevent leprosy from healing itself, and Dimension generality of leprosy patient has limitation of leprosy patient behavior by shutting down because of embarrassment, fear and worry about behavior of society in its environment. Discussion: Stigma and discrimination of leprosy originating from leprosy patients, community and family become the main source of trigger incident in chronic sorrow experienced by leprosy sufferer to influence level of self efficacy of leprosy patient. It was hoped that this research can be the basis for further research and application of community nursing intervention model for promotional programs, prevention and protection of leprosy in Indonesia by involving related institutions.
