Abstract

Early breastfeeding initiation seems unsuccessful in some places. Improving the implementation of early breastfeeding initiation requires social support from people around the mother. This study aimed to analyze correlation between social support and early breastfeeding initiation in the region of sreseh health center, sampang. This was cross sectional design. The samples were post-partum mothers at the region of Sreseh Health Center, Sampang as 76 people. There were two variable in this study, there are social support as independent variable and early breastfeeding initiation as dependent variable. The instrument used in this research is questionnaire. Statistical analyze using spearman rank correlation with significance level α<0,05. Statistical test results p = 0.00, H1 accepted, the result had showed that there was correlation between social support with early breastfeeding initiation. The majority of respondents did not early breastfeeding initiation . The level od social support received by the community was less. The type of social support the mother found the least was information support and the highest source of social support the mother receives comes from community leaders or religious leaders. Suggestion to make early breastfeeding initiation successful, it is necessary to empower the people around mother by combine local culture in giving counseling and information about the early breastfeeding initiation.
