Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of guava leaf extract on the histopathology of ileum broiler in Salmonella pullorum infection. The experiment was conducted at Animal Laboratory and tested histopathology at Pathology Laboratory of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Airlangga University. A total of 30 broiler chicks strain CP707, were randomly divided into 6 Groups of five chicks each in separate cages. Group P0 (-) was not infected by Salmonella pullorum and untreated. Group P0 (+) was infected by Salmonella pullorum and untreated. Groups P1, P2 and P3 were infected by Salmonella pullorum and treated by extract at a dose of 50, 100 and 200 mg/kg respectively for 10 days. Group P4 was infected by Salmonella pullorum and treated by Tetracycline HCl. Chicks from all groups were closely monitored for clinical signs, macroscopic changes and ileum histopathologi appereance. Histopathology diagnosis on the methods of hematoxilin eosin and scoring infekstion organs for 0 – 4. The results showed that guajava leaf extract (Psidium guajava L.) can reduce the damage of ileum broiler infected by Salmonella pullorum. In conclusion, dose 200 mg/kgBB is the best dose on guajava leaf extract in reducing the damage ileum broiler infected by Salmonella pullorum
