Abstract

The aim of this study is to identify the giving effect of brown rice (Oryza nivara) compared with white rice (Oryza sativa) on litter size and birth weight of Mice (Mus musculus) that alive. This study using 54 female mice and 18 male mice (adult) with an average weight 25 – 35 grams. This study using completely randomized design with 5x2 factorial with six replications. The first factor is white rice, with a ratio of 75% commercial feed and 25% white rice (A1), 50% commercial feed and 50% white rice (A2), 25% commercial feed and 75% white rice (A3) and 100% white rice (A4). The second factor is the brown rice, with a ratio of 75% commercial feed and 25% brown rice (A1), 50% commercial feed and 50% brown rice (A2), 25% commercial feed and 75% brown rice (A3) and 100% brown rice (A4). The control is giving 100% commercial feed. Mice is mating and pregnancy examinations in two weeks. After birth, calculating the litter size and birth weight. The result showed that brown rice increase the litter size but decrease the birth weight. However, statistically it is not showed significant differences (P> 0,05).
