Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding is giving only breast milk without other foods and drinks to babies from birth until the age of six month, except medicine and vitamins. Babies deserves to get an exclusive breastfeeding for the first six month, because it has complete and balance nutrition composition for their growth. This study aims to know some factors that affect exclusive breastfeeding in working area of a Puskesmas Grogol, Sukoharjo, Province of Central Java which represented the two lowest percentage of exclusive breastfeeding in 2016 (21.97%). This type of research was observational analitic with cross sectional design. Sampling was probability sampling method, consisted of 112 mothers giving birth in January 2016 including both those who breast feeds their babies exclusively and not. Independent variable in this research moreover, involved woman’s knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding, education level, occupation, age,and parity. On the other hand, the dependent variable is exclusive breastfeeding. Questioner was also conducted as the instrument of this study in order to get primary data. Data were analyzed by Chi-Square with a significant level 95%. The research result showed that woman’s knowledge level (p value=0,002<0,05) and occupation (p value=0,001<0,05), affect exclusive breastfeeding. While, education level (p value=0,516>0,05), age (p value=0,896>0,05) and parity (p=0,226>0,05) don’t affect exclusive breastfeeding.
