Abstract

English is an important language in the world because it is a universal language. It means that people in this world should be able to understand English as a communication tool. Even though many countries may have different mother tongue other than English, they have to learn English to communicate with other people who come from other countries. Jenkins in Sung (2014) stated that today English is a universal language for communication that have differences between linguistic and cultural background. Nowadays, Indonesia is a part of ASEAN Economic Centre. ASEAN consists of many countries which have their own mother tongue. So, those countries need a language to bridge these differences. They should understand English as a universal language as the writer mentioned before. Because understanding English as a communication tool, each country of ASEAN can do cooperation with other countries. People can understand English if they learn it. Learning English can start as young as possible because young children have ability to understand new knowledge easier than other ages. Oroji (2014) stated that one of studies showed that young learners have ability to understand new knowledge quickly without any instructions than a group of adults and adolescents. Parents can choose the schools which are using English as a communication tool in the school. Alphakid Character Studies Centre (ASCS) is one of schools which are using English as a communication tool. It applies education for young children on the concept of fun-learning. So, the children will learn in fun situation. That concept is appropriate with students’ ages which like to play all the times. Teachers will prepare many activities for their education, not only focus on their English skill, but also their social-emotional and their cognitive. Students will be understand English fluently if they are taught by a good teacher. The writer had an opportunity to do her internship in Alphakid Character Studies Centre (ASCS). It was pleasure for the writer because she could be a real teacher assistant in ACSC. She could apply the knowledge about learning for young learners in a real situation, such as playing, dancing, and singing with the students. During her internship, she had many problems but she found the solutions. She got important things during her internship, such as being patient during teaching young learners and being creative to make many activities for young learners.
