Abstract

East Java has many different ethnic groups and cultures which has a lot of tourist attractions. East Java Government Culture and Tourism Service is Government institution which manages the cultures and tourisms in East Java. It increasesthe income of region by developing and promoting the attractive tourism destination in East Java internationally. The writer did the internship as a marketing staff. The Marketing staff has the duties to market analysis, promoting the cultural events and tourism, making interesting and understandable brochures by using right words and sentences, communicating with people by using English to visit tourism object in East Java and also helping tourists to explain tourism objects by interpreting the language well or using gesture to make them understand. The writer did the internship at East Java Government Culture and Tourism Service for one month. She got many experiences during the internship. She gained knowledge about skills and socialization which she never got before. She had to adapt in different situation with different people who have different characters and ages. The writer could improve her ability in public speaking. She also got knowledge about culture and tourism in East Java. The writer also learned how to be discipline, act in front of people, keep attitude and be a good staff in working place. During the internship the writer did her jobs such as translating about East Java Pilgrimage guide book and additional jobs at Tourist Information Center and Rembug Desa Wisata Jawa Timur 2017. After she finished her work, the writer got much knowledge which she never got before, especially the knowledge about the potential of tourism and culture in East Java. The writer also got some extra jobs during her internship. Even though the writer did her jobs according to its reponsibilities that given by Mr. Ma’ruf but there were some job descriptions that were not related to the writer’s job performances. Those jobs were copying and scanning data, sending an email, inputing data, and preparing Rembug Desa event. The writer hopes that the experiences that she got during the internship can make her ready to work in real job and motivate her to future career. Therefore,the writer would give a recommendation to her juniors to do the internship in this place. The writer also suggests the hotel and tourism subject to be more developed in order to ease the interns to master East Java culture while doing internship in East Java Government Culture and Tourism Service. The writer recommends the institution for juniors because the place was interesting to do internship there. The English communication skill that the writer got at her college was also used during her internship. Furthermore, the place is comfortable because of the humble employees there. It will make juniors have fun with the situation while doing the internship.
