Abstract

In this globalization era, the exchange of information among countries around the world easily happens. People, who always want to know everything, can get news and information from anything they have since there are many sources which serve international news. The role of both digital and printed media companies is highly important. Jawa Pos is one of the most popular media companies in Indonesia which provides both national and international news. The writer was given a chance to do his internship program as an international news reporter in the company starting from 16th January to 14th February 2017. International news reporter is a person who re-write news articles in target language (Indonesian) based on the main topic of the articles which are in source language (English) and complete it with other sources of news. During the internship, the writer got knowledge in writing news article and solving many problems as an international news reporter. He learnt about the process of collecting information before writing an article and how to write an interesting and informative article with some tips and tricks given by Mrs. Any as an editor of international news reporter and an advisor of the writer. The writer was also told about mistakes during the process of writing article and how to fix them. There were many mistakes in the writer’s articles which he wrote during his internship. Most of the problems were in the lead paragraph. Mrs. Any said that writing lead paragraph was also the problem even for the experienced reporters. She added that a lead paragraph was the most important part of the article after a title. That was the part when the readers decided to continue reading the article until the end or not. Besides the lead paragraph, the writer’s mistakes were also in the details, the completion of data, and further explanation about difficult words. The writer was told if he wanted to write an article, he should read articles as many as possible to get more information regarding the news. The writer felt that the people who gave him help and guidance were very important for his process of getting working experience through the internship. With advices, helps, tips, and tricks given by Mrs. Any and the other international news reporters, the writer has many knowledge regarding writing news articles which can be useful for him in the future. The writer also felt proud and grateful that he could be a part of Jawa Pos as an international news reporter in his internship.
