Abstract

Language and gender have always become an interesting topic in linguistic area because women’s language is different from men’s language. This study aims to identify women’s linguistic features used by main female characters in Frozen based on Lakoff’s theory. This study applied descriptive qualitative approach. The data were collected from the 113 utterances of Elsa and 385 utterances of Anna. This study found seven women’s linguistic features used by both characters; lexical hedges or fillers, rising intonation on declaratives, superpolite forms, hypercorrect grammar, intensifiers, emphatic stress and empty adjectives. Meanwhile, three other features were absent in this study such as tag questions, avoidance of strong swear words and precise color terms. Lexical hedges or fillers feature was the most frequently used feature while emphatic stress feature was the least frequently used feature. Moreover, it has found that Anna uses more women’s linguistic features than Elsa does because she is less powerful than Elsa.
