Abstract

Language is a method of communication. This means that language does not only contain words, but also other modes which can be used to communicate. This study aims to analyse the multimodality elements used in two Beyonce’s music videos entitled Crazy in Love and Formation. The theory used is the multimodality by Kress and van Leeuwen (2006). The result of this study shows that the concept of two Beyonce’s music videos are presented in several modes regarding three metafunction proposed by Kress and van Leeuwen. The first music video, the concept of Crazy in Love music video is presented in eight modes: background, colour, gesture, camera angle, camera shot, distance, gaze, and placement. While in the second music video, the concept of Formation music video is presented in nine modes: background, colour, gesture, camera angle, camera shot, distance, gaze, placement, and salience.
