Abstract

Losing the loved ones can be depressing. It is the hardest thing to deal with. When they are losing their loved ones, people may grief in other way so they do not have stuck in the moment and move on with their life. The events of losing the loved ones are in line with the events that are pictured in the novel that the writer will analyze. The aim of this study is to discuss about the main character, Bartholomew, in the novel The Good Luck of Right Now. This study analyzes how the grieving process gives impacts to Bartholomew’s life and how the characterization, plot, and point of view support the theme that the grief process gives impact to someone. In this study, the writer uses New Criticism to examine the issue. The data are being taken from the novel itself, journals, books, and other reliable sources are suitable to the analysis. This study uses New Critical approach and applies descriptive method. The writer finds that the grieving process affects Bartholomew’s life through examining the plot, characterization, and point view. Furthermore, it can build an organic unity and support the theme of the story.
