Abstract

A research profile on the prescribing of antibiotics from penicillin derivatives in the Apotek Pharmacy of Airlangga had been conducted. The results showed that the percentage of penicillin-derived antibiotics served reached 49,29% out of all antibiotics. The most widely prescribed from the penicillin-derivated group is amoxyxillin which amounted to 49,29%. Mostly, the prescribing of antibiotics from penicillin derivatives were from general practitioners which was 89,26%. Female patients received more recipes containing antibiotics of penicillin derivatives which amounted to 52,71%. Prescribing a drug with a generic name was 90.28% while brand name drugs only 9,72%. The duration of use the most widely prescribed was 5 days which was 55,85%. In this study, chlorpheniramine maleate is the most widely prescribed drugs with antibiotics from penicillin derivatives. There were 8 risks obtained from potential interactions between amoxicillin with allopurinol that may increase the risk of rash when given simultaneously. Furthermore, penicillin derivatives is still the drug of choice in first line therapy especially in treatment of infections in the Surabaya area was reinforced by the results of the research.
