Abstract

Asthma is one of the chronic diseases during pregnancy, that may be harmful for both the baby and the mother, if it is not well controlled. Medication adherence is one of the main factor that can reduce the harmful risk during pregnancy. The research aims to determine about medication adherence in pregnant women with asthma in Surabaya. A cross sectional study using accidental sampling was conducted. The measurement of adherence was performed using an Adherence to Refills and Medication Scale (ARMS) questionnaire. In this study, there was 15 (3.05%) pregnant women with asthma from 492 pregnant women in Community Health Centers in Surabaya had asthma and all of them showed the non-adherence of medication duing pregnancy. Increasing the role of the pharmacists in pharmaceutical services with the appropriate counseling and education is warranty to minimize nonadherence in pregnant women with asthma.
